Support for Muslim Brotherhood Terror Designation Bill Grows

Support for Muslim Brotherhood Terror Designation Bill Grows

The Muslim Brotherhood Terrorist Designation Act now has about 60 members of Congress supporting it. Although support is growing, the number of cosponsors is far less than what it was for the last version of the bill. Voters must remind members of Congress who supported the previous bill to cosponsor the new bills (HR377 and S68). Information on who is currently supporting the legislation is at the bottom of this article. Earlier this year, it was reported that the Trump Administration was about to designate the Muslim Brotherhood as a Foreign Terrorist Organization. The Brotherhood and its apologists went into…

Take Action on Muslim Brotherhood Bill

Take Action on Muslim Brotherhood Bill

Two more congressmen have cosponsored the Muslim Brotherhood Terrorist Designation Act, bringing the number to 61 representatives and five senators. The increasing tally is encouraging, but it is still far less than what the previous bill received. And that reality is terribly disappointing because, unlike the previous bill, this bill could actually pass since the GOP controls both chambers of Congress and the White House. An opportunity like this may not come again, especially if the Democrats win control of the House in 2018. Voters must remind their members of Congress who supported the previous bill to cosponsor the…

Gen. Mattis Withdraws Pro-Brotherhood Pick

Gen. Mattis Withdraws Pro-Brotherhood Pick

Secretary of Defense General Mattis has withdrawn his choice for the top civilian position in the Defense Department, Anne Patterson, after she was criticized from multiple angles, chiefly because of her coziness with the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood. But the question remains: Why pick her in the first place? In addition, we’re learning of several other questionable holdovers from the Obama Administration remaining in the Trump Administration (so far, it’s still early). Mattis is an enemy of Islamism, the Muslim Brotherhood and the Iranian regime. That’s what made his choice of Patterson, former President Obama’s ambassador to Egypt -- best known…

Muslim Brotherhood: We’re Spending $5 Million on PR in US

A senior Muslim Brotherhood official Mohammed Sudan told an Arab newspaper that the group’s international leadership has launched a major PR campaign to influence the U.S. media and members of Congress to oppose the designation of the Muslim Brotherhood as a Foreign Terrorist Organization. The Brotherhood official predicted that the group would not be designated by the Trump Administration and that the Muslim Brotherhood Terrorist Designation Act introduced into Congress would fail. He claimed that his organization had made contact with governmental officials and members of Congress and convinced them that the Brotherhood is opposed to terrorism, even though the…

State Dept. Hosts Muslim Brotherhood Coalition

State Dept. Hosts Muslim Brotherhood Coalition

Islamist groups still have an open door to the State Department under Secretary Tillerson. A coalition of Muslim Brotherhood groups is boasting that it was granted a visit to the department to provide their perspective on the Temple Mount crisis. The U.S. Council of Muslim Organizations (USCMO) is an umbrella of Islamist extremist groups that was formed in 2014 so they can operate as a single body. The U.S. Muslim Brotherhood had been hoping to achieve such unification since at least 1991 when the Brotherhood expressed this desire in a secret memo uncovered by federal investigators. Most of the groups…

Fuqra/CAIR Official Runs for Congress: 3 Progressive Reactions

12/28/2017 When the Clarion Project broke the story about a congressional run in Massachusetts by an official from the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and Jamaat ul-Fuqra (which now uses the name of Muslims of the Americas or MOA), we pointed out that she casts herself as “unapologetically progressive.” We knew it would be fascinating to see how progressives respond to the “progressive” candidacy of Tahirah Amatul-Wadud, who is running in the Democratic primary in Massachusetts’ 1st Congressional District against Rep. Richard Neal. An articulate, likable, African-American female attorney who styles herself as a civil rights activist would normally be…

The Nikki Haley Report Card   The Trump Administration still hasn’t designated the Muslim Brotherhood as a Foreign Terrorist Organization as it was expected to do. Designation falls under the purview of Secretary of State Tillerson, who has chosen the Muslim Brotherhood and its backers in Qatar and Turkey over their Arab rivals. Tillerson recently signaled his opposition to designating the Muslim Brotherhood in mid-June. He only has negative things to say about the idea. His main point is that the Brotherhood’s political parties have representatives in governments like those…

5 Lessons from the Manchester Bombing

5/30/2017 Suspects continue to be arrested following the suicide bombing at the Manchester Arena, with 13 people arrested in the U.K. and Libya at the time of this writing. One person detonated the explosive but the attack was the product of a global Islamist insurgency—and insurgencies can be defeated if we learn from their operations. Here are 5 lessons from the bombing and follow-up investigation, in no particular order: Manchester is a hub in the Islamist insurgency network. It was a single bomb set off by a single jihadist, but he belonged to a hub in the Islamist insurgency. Apparently…

3 More Reps Cosponsor Bill to Designate MB as Terrorists

2/16/2016 Three more representatives have signed on as cosponsors for the Muslim Brotherhood Terrorist Designation Act. Last week, the chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, Ron Johnson (R-WI), endorsed the companion bill. The Clarion Project thanks all the readers who responded to our requests to contact their congressmen and Senators to ask for position statements and to facilitate briefings for their staff.  The three additional cosponsors are Rep. Lamar Smith (R-TX), Rep. Bill Posey (R-FL) and Rep. David Joyce (R-OH). The support of Rep. Smith is particularly helpful because he sits on the House Judiciary Committee, along with five…
